Help Sarai go to Opera Lucca in Italy!

Hi, my name is Sarai and I am a Vocal Performance Major! I was offered the opportunity to participate in Opera Lucca in Lucca, Italy this Summer where I will be immersed in Italian through language, classes, coaching, and performance!

 

For the 2022 season, all participants will sing in a complete performance of Puccini’s Suor Angelica in one of Lucca’s historic churches, close to Puccini’s childhood home. Singers will also be assigned opera scenes and arias, based on audition, for performances in the last two weeks of the festival. Singers will be immersed in Italian through language classes and coaching. Main opera scenes for the 2022 season come from Le nozze di Figaro, La bohème, and La Traviata. Other scenes will be chosen from standard bel canto, Romantic, and Baroque Italian repertoire, including Mozart, Rossini, Verdi, Puccini, Donizetti, Pergolesi, Handel, etc.

 

While this is a great opportunity, it's also a very expensive one! The cost is approximately $4,000 and covers room and board. Not included in tuition are airfare, train travel, and food.

Opera Lucca is a summer festival for singers, pianists, and composers. It will be held at the Lucca Italian School in the summer. This season we will be casting roles in Suor Angelica as well as in scenes from Le nozze di Figaro, La bohème, La Traviata, and other bel canto and dramatic repertoire. We specialize in teaching Italian opera and art songs through a focus on the language. Our distinguished faculty are either native Italian speakers or experts in operatic Italian. The faculty believe in the need for Italian language immersion as an important component of bel canto training. We teach not just diction but expressive delivery of the text through an understanding of the poetry.
