Help Sareptha & Jerry

Hi everyone. For those who don't know me, my name is Stacey Champion, and all summer, every summer, I'm trying to help save lives in Phoenix, AZ. My motto has become #OneAtATime, and I have a growing list of people I've been able to help with the help of others -- like YOU!

 

I met Sareptha & Jerry through a national journalist named Nina Lakhani, who's in town writing about our extreme heat. You can read what she wrote HERE; the story just dropped this morning.

 

We went to Sareptha & Jerry's house earlier this evening (which is quite honestly uninhabitable), and we must get them out of the unsafe conditions they're currently living in, along with their 19-year-old-daughter and two small dogs. Because they live on a fixed income, and the landlord wants them gone, I called Liz, the CBI Housing Director, to get some assistance. I'm heading back over at 9AM tomorrow to meet with the caseworker with them. The current plan (so they won't be in a 100+ degree house and both have medical issues) is to have them pack everything up, put their belongings in storage, and then they will be placed in a hotel room until the CBI team can get them into affordable housing (which can take awhile).

 

So... we need to raise money for moving and storage, plus I'd like to help them pay off some outstanding bills so they can have a bit of a fresh start when they finally get a habitable place to live. In the meantime, they'll at least be safe. I will also be emailing the city and my Councilwoman to ensure this slumlord won't be able to rent this property to anyone ever again unless serious upgrades are made.

 

I always keep/show all receipts when I help people in this manner, and every dollar raised will go directly to this family (minus the fees GoFundMe takes obviously).
