Help Sasha Pay for Caregiving

Donation protected

Three years ago, I was a victim of a domestic violence assault that left me permanently in a wheelchair with long-term assistance needs. News Article about the attack  I have no family or friends nearby capable of assisting in my caregiving needs, which is what people usually have to rely on. Private insurance does not cover caregiving needs. State Medicaid has an income cap that prevents many disabled people from working full time. Since the Crime Victims Fund ran out nearly 2.5 years ago, I have been paying for my caregivers. These people help me get in and out of bed, go to the toilet, and put on my clothes. I literally could not work or live my life without them.

The cost for my care is over $1000 a week to have this help. I have used the money from selling my old van and drained my savings, including the funds raised during my hospitalization. I have sold anything of value in my house. There have been generous donations from churches and people in my social network. My family has given me money as well. I am tapped out with no discernable way forward at the moment.

Long term, I have been approved for the Disabled Worker's state Medicaid program, which means my enormous co-pays and caregiving will be covered. This program is a lifesaver in so many ways. Although I was approved at the beginning of March, I could only access the system that lets me start hiring caregivers in the past few days. I still have to find folks and train them to transition from out-of-pocket to state-covered caregivers. I am out of money with no way to fund my caregivers beyond the end of this week. I have tried every other avenue I can think of. Please help me make it through this gap until my services start.

In addition, I have enormous medical debt from the years of only having private insurance, debts from when my ex controlled my credit, as well as anticipated medical expenses looming in the future. Any funds beyond when my services start will go straight to that. I have a dream of someday having a small accessible home near my family and addressing these debts will be the first step in this.
