Namaste from India
This is not something I ever thought I would have to do in my life, let alone whilst learning how to meditate in the Himalayas, but this is a crisis and there is nothing I would not do for my mom; so here we go.
Those closest to me know what my mom means to me. She is my best friend and my rock. I have always counted on her through ups and downs, and in this darkest hour of her life, I've been called upon to be her rock.
She doesn’t know how to ask for help because she has been on her own her whole life. But she needs help now.
I have asked every spiritual teacher and mentor what to do, and they unanimously agreed that I need to pray for a miracle. So I humbly and urgently pray to God and the Universe, that you, my friends, and all good human beings out there reading this, please help my mom; a single, 65-year-old Russian immigrant, and victim of a massive cryptocurrency scam that wiped out her entire life savings (and more - they got her to mortgage her home and take out numerous loans).
The saddest part is, as I investigate further into the prevalence of cryptocurrency fraud, it turns out that it is way more common that I thought. According to the FBI, crypto scams stole $5.6 billion from Americans in 2023 alone, mostly from older people. My mom's idea to invest in crypto was born out of the intention to help me open an Ayurvedic clinic, to “help me help more people.” The scammer was sophisticated; trained to exploit her intentions with the investment, and gained her trust by impersonating a YouTube crypto influencer and investor. He used advanced psychological techniques to get in my mom’s head, and put all her crypto on a website that, turns out, is fraudulent and no longer exists as of a few days ago.
I have been traveling in India the past few months, finishing my Ayurvedic doctorate, doing my own healing, and diving deeper into yoga teacher training. A few days ago, I woke up to a nightmare series of frantic texts from my mom. I could feel the absolute panic and shock in her messages. I would not wish that moment on anyone. It is especially devastating because my mom, orphaned at a young age, has worked hard her entire life and came to this country as a Jewish Russian refugee for a better, safer life. And she has worked her butt off to get as far as she did. She told me for the past 2 years how much she was looking forward to retiring and finally resting in this later season of life.
I have been studying and practicing Ayurveda, a Dharmic mind/body/spirit healing path, for the past 7 years without serious pursuit of monetary gain, but with very serious pursuit of attaining right knowledge to guide those who are sick or suffering, and educate people on the Vedic way to prevent illness. All this to say, I am not in a financial position to get her a good lawyer or help pay her groceries/bills right now. And seeing my mom, at this point in her life, struggling like this and terrified of having lost everything she has ever worked for, is frankly unbearable.
I am asking the Universe for a miracle, anyone who is in a position to help her through this time, be it big or small, to let her know she is not alone and that the world isn’t a terrible place. For as many people out there preying on vulnerable older generations like her, especially with English as their second language, I believe there are even more people that will support and rally around her and let her know she is not alone. I can’t think of anyone more worthy of receiving this love and support than my mother. All funds received go directly toward 1) Immediate Relief: covering urgent necessities like rent, food, utilities, and legal fees. 2) Long-term stability: providing funds to help her rebuild a new financial foundation.
The sheer act of generosity and kindness is truly the medicine her broken heart needs. Thank you all so much, it means the absolute world to me.
❤️ - Sasha
