Help save a Geneva, IL landmark

Donation protected
The Miller-Gully house was built in 1839, and is one of the oldest structures in Geneva (or, for that matter, in Kane County).  It is a local landmark, and has been standing since the days of James Herrington (a name known to many Geneva residents).  Sadly, it has sat vacant for more than ten years and has been deteriorating for that length of time.  Many of you may recognize the building from passing it on East State Street, while driving up the east side hill.  It was built by John and Jacob Harkins for Hendrick Miller in 1839 (part of Harkins' payment was one cow worth $17, and twenty bushels of wheat!) and was first occupied by John, Ann, and Susan Dunn.  There was once a distillery on the site, and during the Civil War, it was sold to Dr. J. B. Gully, a local homeopathic physician.  The home was owned by Bob Smith (a Geneva native) for many years, and has been featured in every published history of Geneva.  It was awarded a historic plaque in 1981, and features original framing, windows, floors, and more.

Thankfully, a few months ago a generous and preservation-minded developer (Redemption Holdings LLC) has purchased the land on which the house sits, and has sold me the structure (for $2) with the understanding that I move it from the site by the middle of this fall (2018).  I love historic homes, and live in one (the Adams-Joy-Snow house) which was moved (in our home's case, back in 1963) - I would like to move the home to a lot I own on the east side of Geneva (keeping the home in its original community) and restore it.  I believe that the community will benefit from helping save this historic local building.  100% OF ALL FUNDS RAISED will go directly toward the relocation of the building!

I am a former Princeton Review tutor (ACT, SAT, GRE, math, history, etc.) and I am willing to "donate" a 1.5-hour tutoring session for anyone willing to make a donation of $100 (or more) to this good cause.  I just re-took the ACT, scoring a 35 (top 1% nationwide), and have some great advice for high-school-aged folks taking this test, or the SAT.  I have perfect scores (36) in both English and Reading.  Contact me for details - I live in Geneva!  (Any donors who wish to have a handful of square nails from the addition to the house are welcome to them - keep them as a reminder of what you helped to save!  Just contact me and I will make sure you receive them)

Thank you so much to all of you who have donated thus far - you are helping to preserve an important local landmark!
