Help save abused cat in Okinawa
My name is Dante, and I rescue abused cats in Okinawa, Japan. Recently I rescued a cat near Araha Beach, who has the worst wounds I've ever seen.
His name is Chikara.
Half of Chikara's face is missing--his nose and mouth are completely gone, and his ears are missing chunks.
Despite his horrific injuries, he is doing his best to keep eating and survive, which is why I named him after the Japanese word for strength.
He is a very sweet and loving cat, and loves to be petted and given affection.
But he obviously has a lot of trauma. The night that I rescued him, he fought so hard against his cage that he broke the door and escaped into the car while I was driving on the highway.
Holding him secure with one hand, after a lot of struggling I was able to make it back home and take him to the vet.
According to the doctor, the cause of the wound can't be determined yet, but it's obvious that he was a house cat until recently.
It's possible that cancer ate away at his face, and his owner ignored it and then abandoned him when it got bad.
The area he was rescued in has had horrible incidents of abuse in the past, things like people setting off fireworks in cats' mouths, and there is also a possibility of physical abuse.
Chikara needs to undergo surgery to take skin from the side of his face and stretch it to cover the open wound, but the infection is too bad to perform the surgery yet.
At the moment, he's undergoing 2 weeks of antibiotics and daily cleaning of the wound to prepare for surgery.
His medical costs are estimated to run into the thousands, and due to his tragic condition he can't be released back outside, and is very unlikely to find a foster.
I'm prepared to take care of him for the rest of his life, and give him the happiness that he deserves, but am unable to support the medical bills alone.
Any help to save Chikara's life is extremely appreciated. Thank you so much for reaching out to save an animal in dire need.
