Help Alasdair Hoskins

I’m sad to say that after a brief but very brave and strong battle with brain cancer, Alasdair died this morning (June 20th) in his sleep.

We have had many adventures on the way. When I’m Honolulu, we would take every opportunity for fun that we could find, including go-karting and bowling.

Ali was a master at charming doctors into letting him ride in their sports cars.

Ali was part of his schools Newberry book award competition team after receiving brain surgery (which I like to think says a lot about his intelligence and recovery; not the schools lack of other team members)!

We had been trying to get Ali onto a couple of medical trials for immunotherapy treatments with no success during the time after radiation. His tumor was in a high-risk place and there is not enough research into child glioblastoma happening.

The Make-A-Wish foundation granted Ali a big one: they flew us all to Denmark to the home of LEGO.
We got to visit the current factory and see LEGO begins molded, the original LEGO house where the founder made the blocks by hand, and Ali was invited to meet the designers of the Star Wars LEGO sets. It really inspired him, and the trip was a wonderful time for the whole family together.

After coming back from Denmark we were preparing for his immunotherapy treatment to start, but scans revealed that the cancer had spread through his body to a point that was no longer treatable.

He has never complained or moaned at his misfortune. He has been incredibly brave throughout.




He was brave and stoic to the end, and like him, Gretchen and I don’t want a fuss. Thanks for wanting to wish us well, but your prayers aren’t necessary at this time.
