Help Save Alberta's Home from Foreclosure

Donation protected

Hi !

My name is Zjelice - I also go by Jayy and I'm raising this fund for Alberta - my grandma .

Sadly in 2020 she passed form covid complications and left my mom, aunt, and my 2 sisters her home in the 7th ward of New Orleans, LA.

When she passed we allowed someone my grandma was really close with to stay in the home and they completely tarnished the inside with junk and trash and basically took advantage of our kindness. The house was infested with mice and just overrun with trash.

In Oct. 2024 he dodged questions about the care of the home but made comments about leaving because of the state of the house. Something he had done on his own because when my grandma passed we handed him the keys to a fully clean and organized home and even paid for a moving company to help him move his things in making it explicitly known that he didn't need to bring much because we left the house furnished.

He stayed for 4 years and told us in late October that come December 2024 he would be leaving but would take care of the mortgage for both Nov. & December, so we were fully prepared to step in come January 25'.

That did not happen. In fact he moved out the same week he told us, didn't pay the mortgage for either month and we didn't receive notice until we drove to my grandmother's house (doing a check in of the property) to see a past due notice in her mailbox.

He dodged our calls, texts, completely cut off contact with us and basically left us in the wind. Inside of the house was a complete and utter mess - We were all left in tears at the state of our grandmother's house. My grandma was always an extremely tidy/clean woman. I had never seen her house in disarray and it was even difficult for us to walk in because we were just so heartbroken. The fridge and freezer was left with food inside, there was trash and debris everywhere, mice had eaten through her cabinets, various boxes he had left in the home - just a complete and utter disaster not to mention the smell was unbearable. There were mice droppings EVERYWHERE. completely covering whole surfaces.

Only myself and my Aunt live in Louisiana - Mom and sisters in California- so the burden of caring for the house in person was left to her and I.

because the mortgage was already two months behind the mortgage company would not accept our Jan. payment unless we could give two months payment and that also meant we were not allowed to claim forbearance until we did.

The house was too much of a disaster to rent out immediately without some repairs to the ceiling ,walls, and some of the rooms - not all of the damage he did directly, but also didn't inform us about to take care of. We have a warranty on the home and it would've been taken care of with one phone call had he told us.

But I don't want to harp on this person, I want to fix this issue now that he's no longer a factor.

We owe less than 25k on the home (she purchased in 1997) but we aren't asking for that - just the 5k needed to take it of foreclosure and then we can resume payments after that.

I live in Baton Rouge, and my dad is battling cancer in New Orleans, so the plan is to move in to be closer to my dad and help with all of his cancer treatments going forward while making repair as we go.

Please, if there is anything you can give it would be most appreciated. There is complete sadness going around my family that we may not be able to keep this home in her memory.
