Help Save Bastrop's Historic Little Wooden Church
Tax deductible
Constructed in 1895 and a highly recognized part of the Bastrop historical scene, this church building is in serious need of repairs. Based on a recent engineering study, structural repairs are required to save the building for the enjoyment of future Bastropians. The building has been the subject of artists and photographers, the backdrop for feature films and a destination for many weddings.
Repairs began in 2018 with the roof replacement and continued into 2022 with a structural engineering assessment, structural repairs, prep for painting and exterior painting. Most important is the restoration of the 27 stained-glass windows. Restoration of the east-side windows is complete. Work has begun on the south-side windows. Remaining is the restoration of windows on the north and west sides as well as foundation repairs.
Through giving by our church family and the community near and far as well as in-kind gifts from craftsmen and suppliers we have raised almost $200,000. We expect work to continue into 2024 and require at least another $100,00. Since losing this historical and beloved building is not an option, the Building Preservation Committee is seeking help from the community. If you value history, especially Bastrop history, and can help, please donate. Thanks.
