Help Save Beloved Bogey

Donation protected
Dear Friends and Goat Lovers,

This year I have been lucky enough to get to know some truly incredible humans living and working with goat partners. The folks at Roxbury Goat Barn are some of the most knowledgeable and ethical goat farmers in our region, providing goatscaping services in the upstate of South Carolina and Western North Carolina. They are a small family-owned business that brings small herds of goats to clients’ properties to clear unwanted, or invasive foliage, briars, shrubs, bamboo, and grasses. Each goat is carefully integrated into a working team, and they steadfastly clear land both in the countryside and within city limits. I have seen first-hand how effective these goats are and how friendly and happy they are when they get to work - especially if they get a fig newton here or there!! It is truly a delight to see how humans and animals can work together and when I have volunteered to help with daily check-ins, I have witnessed clients’ and neighbors' faces light up when they get to interact with these amazing goats.

Unfortunately, sometimes even the most ethical practices for transporting and safeguarding a herd can be thwarted by freak encounters with wildlife. This GoFundMe is a request to help support Bogey, the first goat ever born on Roxbury Barn land. While working in downtown Asheville to clear land at the Jewish Community Center, a rogue bear climbed a tree to then jump down into the electrified fence and attack the Roxbury Barn herd. As the rest of the herd broke through the electrical fencing to escape, Bogey took the brunt of the attack and has suffered more than 50 lacerations and several bite puncture wounds.

Thanks to the heroes at the Jewish Community Center, other Asheville neighbors, and Animal Control, Bogey was rescued from the bear and has been in the extremely skilled hands of Veterinary Emergency Care where he was treated for his wounds and then transferred to AnimalsRUs for continued care and monitoring. Luckily, the wounds are only skin-deep and the Beloved Bogey is expected to make a full recovery.

This GoFundMe is to ask for any donation - large or small - to the veterinary care required to save this beautiful life. If all you are able to do at this time is circulate this post on Bogey’s behalf, we are all deeply grateful for your efforts also. We will keep everyone posted on his recovery on social media and via email if you would like to continue to be a part of his healing journey.

With Love and Deep Gratitude for your support,

The Friends of Roxbury Farms
