Help Save Blueberry Donut

This morning, we (Gert and Nicole) headed to ACCT for our weekly volunteer efforts but before we could even get inside, this little guy caught our eye. Naturally, we approached to smother him with unsolicited love only to find out he was there not to be rescued, but to be surrendered due to illness his parents were unwilling, and unable, to treat. This young heartthrob has Parvo; one of the most deadly illnesses a young pup can have. In untreated dogs the mortality rate rests at 91%. Parvo is a highly contagious viral infection affecting the intestinal tract causing nausea, intense diarrhea and anorexia (among a host of other unpleasantries). The condition prohibits the absorption of essential nutrients, protein and fluids and often attacks immune systems, making the dog susceptible to secondary bacterial infections. The depletion of necessary nutrients often leads to an internal system shut down, and then, loss of life. It’s painful, to say the least. Though Parvo is preventable by vaccine, too frequently we find back yard breeders aren’t treating the pups with the essentials. The majority of puppy related deaths is at the hands of untreated and non-prevented Parvo. If caught early enough, there is hope. And we are believers in hope, though, the care required is intensive therapy and systemic support. The next five days of this young dudes life are crucial.
Knowing this, we did what any dog loving fool would do and convinced the owners to surrender him to us, rather than the shelter, where he would have been euthanized immediately. Then, we high tailed it straight to VSEC and upon arrival named him Blueberry Donut, as he is just as sickeningly sweet.
Upon evaluation the doctors agreed their may be hope, but that our little Blueberry was in for the fight of his life. Costs are exorbitant. Our preliminary estimate came in around $6000 and will likely increase from there. Blueberry will require hospitalization for the next 5 days at minimum and constant medical care throughout. If he survives this ordeal, he’ll return to us until he ready for adoption and eventually off to a forever family committed to him the way every dog deserves. To be loved unconditionally.
Blueberry Donut is a bluenose pit bull (obviously). He is four months old and weighs about 16lbs. His blue face looks as if someone has spilled sweet vanilla icing over it and it’s dribbled down his chin to his chest. Some also spilled over to his toes. He is a sweet treat. Simply delicious! And he needs some help getting proper nutrition so he can continue to hand out toothaches and heart flutters better than an authentic sugar high.
This little nugget needs a lot of help. This morning, his fate was no more than darkness, this afternoon, there is light. But we can’t do it alone. We know our followers share the same unconditional and irrevocable passion for the beings that loyally carry us through all the ups and downs life has to offer. So, we’re pulling on your heart strings and asking for your help saving Sir Blueberry Donut.
Please lend us some help by donating to our GoFundMe. ANYTHING helps.
Stay tuned here for updates.
