Help Save Bun

Donation protected
TLDR: Bun's health has rapidly declined this past year. She received a blood transfusion last week but will need to go for an exploratory abdominal surgery tomorrow for a suspected GI bleed. She is the first grandchild/dog of the family and we're hoping to do whatever it takes to get her tail wagging again. We cannot thank you enough for any and all love and support.

For those of you who do not know Bun, we adopted her back in 2018 the moment we saw her. Her litter was left in a box on the side of the road in Arkansas and she was going to be put down, as she was born deaf and partially blind. Bunny has the brightest spirit, the most lovable face, and will cause strangers to stop as we pass by on the street to watch her adorable runway walk. We expected to encounter some health problems due to her hearing and vision, but we have been faced with a difficult year health-wise for Bun and have yet to determine the underlying cause.

This past year, Bun has been getting bloated, sluggish, gaining weight rather rapidly, and is hungry all the time. We saw multiple vets to get numerous opinions and they could not determine the cause of her symptoms. Bun was put on thyroid medication with minimal improvement. We then brought her to an MSPCA specialist who started treating her for suspected Cushing's Disease. An ultrasound noted an enlarged liver but they could not conduct a biopsy to determine the underlying reason, as her Cushing's was uncontrolled. Following 6 months of bimonthly bloodwork we continued to see no improvement in her lab results. She then began to get even more tired and stopped enjoying her walks.

Bun continued to show a decline in her health and was vomiting throughout the night so we brought her to the ER where she was watched for 3 days. They believed that the Cushing's medication may have exasperated an underlying GI condition. Her blood work then showed she has pancreatitis, a mucocele in her gall bladder, and a bladder infection.

Following the ER visit, we saw some improvement, though it was short-lived. At a follow-up visit the vet noted that she was terribly anemic, so they conducted an emergency blood transfusion on the 16th. Immediately after, we had some hope as Bun was able to wag her tail again briefly and have some spring in her step. It's been 5 days since the transfusion and Bun has lost significant energy and threw up in the middle of the night. We now have an exploratory abdominal surgery scheduled for tomorrow to biopsy multiple organs and check for a suspected GI bleed to determine what may be causing her symptoms. The surgery will cost $4,500. We are beyond grateful for any support, donations, shares, and well wishes. All funds raised will go toward Bun's care. Bun has made many friends through our 30+ fosters through Paws4Survival and we hope to provide any additional funds to this meaningful organization. Thank you thank you endlessly.
