Help Save Cats and Kittens in Boracay!
Hello! My name is Malina Fagan, and I am an American living on the island of Boracay in the Philippines. Over the past few years, I’ve become deeply involved in animal rescue—volunteering with AARRC and founding Boracay Beach Cats , where I’ve fostered 28 kittens and spayed 30 cats in the past year (with support from Socialization Saves Lives and Boracay Vet Mission). I also helped create a small independent cat sanctuary along the Nabaoy River thanks to a GoFundMe started by Laura Seibring. Last but not least, I co-founded BAARC , an NGO that rescued 50 dogs from a kill pound and currently operates two dog shelters.
Despite these efforts, the situation in Boracay is overwhelming. Every week, I receive multiple requests to rescue sick or abandoned cats and kittens—often from locals who can’t afford veterinary care or tourists who are leaving the island in a few days.

As one cat lady, I can only do so much. That’s why I teamed up with another cat lady, Darla Shae, to start a cat sanctuary in Nabaoy, where a caretaker named JP fosters and cares for cats and kittens in need. We currently have 3 friendly cats who were rescued from euthanasia and one kitten who had been left in the bushes in a sealed box, trying to bite its way out. We need support to rescue more cats and kittens who are abused or abandoned and get them the help they need to recover. We also need funds to provide ongoing food, medical care, and spay and neutering for the animals under our care and to compensate our caretaker for all of their dedication and hard work!
Because the sanctuary is small, we cannot help every cat. That’s why we’re also focusing on spay/neuter programs to prevent unwanted litters and save hundreds (if not thousands) of kittens from suffering slow and painful deaths.
How You Can Help
Every donation—big or small—makes a tremendous difference. Here’s how your support can help:
• $5: Buys a bottle of medicine, such as dewormer, eye drops, or antibiotics, which can save a kitten’s life.
• $10: Provides a cat carrier, flea medicine, or formula for a bottle baby.
• $25: Sponsors food for a cat in the shelter for one month. (If you’d like to make this recurring, we can send you updates and photos of a sponsored cat of your choosing.)
• $50: Contributes toward JP’s salary, ensuring the sanctuary is well cared for.
• $100: Covers the cost to spay a cat, preventing countless unwanted litters. This includes the operation, post-op meds, and wet food (to mix the medicine in for 10 days after surgery). Priority is given to stray cats and cats whose owners can’t afford the operation. (You can receive before-and-after photos of the cat.)
Note: While discounted government spay programs in Boracay are available, they often have 6-month-long waiting lists, leading to more unwanted litters.
• $150: Rescues a single kitten, covering vet visits, vaccinations, medicines, food, and supplies over several months. You’ll receive updates on their progress!
• $500: Spays 5 cats or rescues a litter of kittens. (It’s common for locals to throw entire litters into the garbage or bushes. Let’s prevent unnecessary suffering!)
• $5,000–$10,000: Funds a life-changing veterinary mission to spay/neuter hundreds of animals or helps launch a sustainable CNVR (Catch-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return) program on the island.
Whether you donate supplies, funds, or simply share this message, you’re helping save lives. Together, we can reduce the suffering of cats and kittens in Boracay and give them a chance at the life they deserve.
Thank you for your kindness and support ❤
