Help Save Doria, Her Home and Her Grandchildren

Donation protected
Hello,

Doria Daniels desperately needs your help before she loses her home that she prayed for and worked her butt off to help build through Habitat for Humanity.  She has given her whole life to caring for others, including so many of us here in the St. Louis area and other states.  For the last 11 years she has been serving at a community clinic for community members who remain uninsured. She is a regular volunteer at the local soup kitchen.

In the past, Doria assisted with the foster care coalition and was in school to become a social worker to further her career and increase the impact she has in our community. This last year has led to her putting her career on hold as she breaks down barrier after barrier to support her family and herself.

Doria knows what it is like to run into brick wall after brick wall. She has had to navigate the healthcare world for not only her clients, but her mother and two of her adult children also.

Doria lost her mother to COVID-19 in the summer of 2020.   Doria drew strength from her mother’s passing by assisting with the build of her new home through Habitat for Humanity, and assisting with outreach events to vaccinate the St. Louis community against Covid-19.

The first part of Spring 2021 seemed as if all she had to plan for was her move into her new home.

However, Doria was hit with some tough blows. On April 18, 2021 her son Markel was diagnosed with Stage IV bladder Cancer. As if that wasn't difficult enough, on April 8, 2022, her daughter Cecilia, was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Following these diagnoses, Doria’s weeks consisted of driving back and forth between hospitals to sit in on doctor’s appointments, picking up and dropping off her children for chemo treatments and picking up medication.

She still managed to drive into work to serve her community and the clients at the clinic. She continued to work because she needed to support herself and her family.  The money made and the little she saved all went to her children’s medical bills, supplies and medications. We are sad to say that Markel passed away from complications from his cancer after catching COVID-19 in February 2022, and Cecilia later passed away from complications of her cancer in August 2022.

Doria is a strong and amazing person but the strength she has is slowly wearing.  She is now faced with the daunting task of raising Cecilia's four children who are all between the ages of 6 and 12. On top of raising these beautiful children, she now has her own health issues to battle and facing the possibility of losing her home.

During the COVID years, there were some delays on Habitat for Humanity’s part with the closing on her home that she now resides in and has been there for almost two years.  She now faces the threat of her home being taken away from her and her grandchildren because Habitat says she needs to come up with more money to QUALIFY AGAIN!! This is not right nor her fault the closing didn’t happen when it should have.  Now that she’s retired to raise her grandchildren it’s impossible for her to come up with $90,000 which is what she was told she needs to stay in her home, basically they are saying she needs to pay it off which doesn’t make any sense.

We are asking that you help support Doria by donating to help keep her home so that she has a stable environment to raise her four grandchildren.

Thank you for reading and supporting Doria. It is a strong, supportive community that makes this world seem brighter in the darkest of times. And since I don’t have thousands of followers on my Social Media pages please Share her story because time is of the essence.
