Help save Holton Pits for the local community
Donation protected
Nestled in Suffolk near the heritage coast and Southwold lies a little haven for wildlife.
For many years over 20 acres of woodland, ponds and fields have been the home for many. It’s a lovely space used regularly - dogs love it for walks, it’s a safe area for kids to explore, it’s a space that is essential to the local community and it improves wellbeing for locals and visitors. This area is now being threatened and could be taken away from a community who have used and enjoyed it for decades.
The former quarry in Holton known by all, locally, as Holton Pits was put up for sale by the site’s owner.
In response, the Holton Pits Preservation Group (HPPG) was formed to try and prevent the 20 acre site from being sold and developed in a manner that would threaten its fragile biodiversity and restrict access for the local community who, for many decades, have enjoyed the open use of the site for reasons of recreation and wellbeing.
In February 2023 it became a registered ‘Community Interest Company’ named the Holton Pits Community Interest Company – or ‘Holton Pits CIC’ for short.
We have until mid-April to raise the initial funds needed of around £200k and currently have around £140k from donations and loans from local companies.
***Through this campaign we have received generous donations and now only need £20,000 to reach the target! ***
Please give what you can to help keep this a place for all to enjoy for years to come.
* If our bid to CEMEX is not successful we agree to transfer at least 90% (we hope 92%) of your funds back to you directly. We will need to keep back some of the funds to cover our costs for example, legal, administrative, publicity, etc.
