Help Restore Iowa City's Beloved Bloom County House!

River City Housing Collective is a nonprofit affordable housing cooperative near downtown Iowa City, IA. We have been in continuous existence since 1977. Since 2005, we have owned the beautiful Lin(d)say house on the corner of Summit and College St, since dubbed the Bloom County house by suggestion of the Pulitizer Prize-winning author Berkley Breathed of the syndicated comic strip of the same name; the Lindsay house is notable as the boarding house setting for his characters. However, it was the unique architectural character of the house, not it's pop culture significance, that landed 935 E. College St. on the National Registry of Historic Places in 1977.
As nonprofit affordable housing, the past few years have been hard. Add to the pandemic grief a devastating fire at one of our houses and, as an organization, we find ourselves in a delicate position.
We need your help now to fund extensive exterior repairs to maintain this beautiful house for the community that values it, the fans who stop to admire and take photos, and the members who call it home.
Thank you for your contribution to preserving this beautiful home as a local landmark and an affordable housing resource.
