Help Save Kermit

Donation protected
On July 7th 2019 at 1:00am PST, our dog Kermit was attacked in an unprovoked incident by a pitbull while coming home from a walk. Both dogs were leashed, but the other dog's owner was unable to control her dog and ended up being dragged to the ground as her 70+lbs dog charged at all 5lbs of Kermit.  Her dog latched on to Kermit and caused significant injuries to his tiny body. Thankfully some good samaritans were working nearby and helped to pull the other dog off Kermit before he could inflict even more severe damages or kill him.

Kermit has been at the VCA animal emergency ever since the attack with a broken jaw, puncture wounds, other fractures, significant bruising and a possible sepsis infection. He is only able to eat with the help of a feeding tube which he will require for the next 2+ months as his jaw will have to be wired shut until it is healed.

He was scheduled to have surgery today (07/08/2019) to have a plate put in his jaw and repair his injuries, but it has be postponed due to infection and he will have to continue to be treated at the emergency clinic until he is strong enough to have surgery. The cost of 24hr care at VCA is upwards of $3000 a day. His jaw surgery can cost upwards of $10,000+ depending on the extent of his injuries, which we can not know until he is seen by the animal dental specialist.

We thankfully have pet insurance, but it unfortunately does not cover everything and we are required to put all of the money up front before they eventually reimburse us, and we have been informed that it may not cover our ongoing medical expenses and follow-ups from this event. Kermit has a long recovery ahead and so far we are exhausting our savings trying to keep our little buddy alive and on the road to healing the many wounds he sustained in this vicious attack.

The owner of the other dog attempted to flee the scene, but as she lives in the same apartment complex as Ryan, Kermit's dad, we were able to track down her information. She refuses to speak or communicate with us at all, whether to apologize or offer any financial help for Kermit's injuries, so we are left with this financial and emotional burden for doing nothing more than taking our dog on a walk before bed. Anyone who knows Kermit knows he is the sweetest, most gentle and loving soul who couldn't hurt a fly if he tried. We are beyond devastated and just hoping our little guy pulls through.

Funds will go towards helping pay for Kermit's extended stay at the VCA, medical treatment & surgeries, medications, specialty food, feeding tube care and follow-up appointments, as well as the work Ryan has missed while traveling back and forth to the VCA and having to transport Kermit between the emergency service clinics, as it is ongoing. Anything helps and we are so grateful for your support.
