Help save Louis the Golden

Hi everyone, my name is Céleste, I appreciate the time you’re taking to read this. After multiple visits to the vet and being told that my dog only had an ear infection and allergies I came back home hoping that the prescribed medication would make him feel better. The next day when I came back from work he was laying down not wanting to move or eat. Yesterday night the scariest thing happened to me. In the middle of the night Louis, my one year and 5 months old golden retriever, had a series of seizures. Convulsing non stop, panting and unresponsive I thought I was going to loose him. Not being able to do anything to help him was a nightmare. I took him to Alta Vista Emergency Veterinary Hospital where he was immediately put on an IV and started a series of tests. After 8 hours waiting for answers, the doctors said that they finally found what would be the cause of this but still needed to confirm with multiple other tests. Autoimmune encephalitis. That’s what they think he has. This is when the body's immune system is 'faulty' and mistakenly starts to attack healthy tissues. As a result, the dog's immune system attacks the brain and it can cause seizures. It can be categorized as infectious or non-infectious. They are still trying to identify the cause for Louis. Infectious encephalitis includes bacterial, fungal, viral or parasitic, whereas non-infectious encephalitis of unknown origin is commonly as a result of an immune-mediated disease. The veterinary staff is working as quickly as they can to diagnose and treat the condition. Diagnosis is most effectively achieved via analysis of cerebrospinal fluid. Treatment depends on the pathogen or cause of the condition and most commonly involves broad spectrum antibiotics, antivirals and immunosuppressive corticosteroids which will shorten his lifespan. As a result Louis needs to stay a couple of days at the hospital where he will be in the intensive care unit and be monitored for any neurological changes. Not having him with me home for the first time in my life is devastating. I would do anything for him to be healthy and strong again. The doctor brought Louis to me so I could say bye until I would go visit the next morning. Seeing his big smiley face gave me hope, I know he will pull through, he needs to, I need him. At the end of his stay I will need to pay the veterinary bills, which, as the second day of his stay, is already estimated at $9085,49. I’m a full time university student and work a part time job. I usually get through anything but this time I need to reach out for help. Anything helps. Please help me, and my best friend Louis.
