Help Save My Husband’s Life: Support for Urgent Bipolar Care
Donation protected
Four years ago my husband had a major psychotic episode that turned our lives upside down. We spent years rebuilding. Our life was so, so good. He was healthy, we had custody of his daughter, we had a beautiful home and an adorable dog.
And then last night, it all fell apart again. And I’m so heartbroken. He is in full-fledged mania, and I am in shock from how fast it happened.
At 10:30 we were hanging out and having fun, by 11:30 he had gotten so upset and manic I called his mom, and by midnight he had called the police.
Thankfully his family was already at our house and could explain about his bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, but he refused to go to the hospital.
After an encounter with the police on Sunday, he was taken to the psychiatric ward, but he could be released at any time. I am grateful he wound up in the hospital, as the police could have treated him the same way that many folks with mental illnesses are treated, or killed.
If you don't know, our psychiatric system is very broken, and getting him care beyond 72 hours in the emergency psych ward is incredibly, incredibly expensive—even with great insurance.
I am trying to raise $25,000 to cover urgent costs of care, which are mostly not covered by our insurance. I am incredibly worried that without this, this episode will escalate again and he will end up as yet another person with mental illness killed by the police or in prison.
He deserves to live.
I’ve never loved anyone more. He’s my soulmate. He’s brilliant and kind and so loving.
I hope he finds his way back to us. I hope he makes it out of this alive, and that this isn’t the end of our story together.
