Help SAVE Nancy from Euthanasia
Donation protected
Brought to the shelter as a stray, Nancy Grace is a one year old female tabby cat with white paws. In the recent days, shelter staff started to notice some very concerning symptoms like vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea, and increased thirst. Because the shelter can’t afford her medical treatment, they scheduled Nancy Grace to be euthanized on September 14th. We have only a limited time to save her life so we brought her into the vet for a diagnosis.
She was diagnosed with feline hyperthyroidism- a common disease in cats, caused by an enlarged thyroid gland in the neck. Some of our past rescues and foster cats have also suffered from this. If feline hyperthyroidism is left untreated it can lead to serious heart problems, heart failure and even death. They recommend surgical thyroidectomy for Nancy to recover and go on to live a long, healthy life. The surgery will remove her thyroid glands. It’s a relatively straightforward surgery with a GREAT success rate. The advantage of surgery is that it will be a permanent cure so it eliminates the need for medicating her long term. The surgery requires general anesthesia and a 7-10 day stay for observation. Before they can perform the surgery, she’ll need to undergo lab testing and a physical exam to ensure she is healthy enough to operate. She has lost a significant amount of weight since she got to the shelter. Her situation is urgent.
We will be fostering Nancy Grace in our home until we can get her the surgery she needs. She will be the 20th cat we have saved! If we don’t raise enough money, Nancy will sadly be euthanized on September 14th. We appreciate your support in saving another cat’s life!
There are so many animals who are subjected to less than livable conditions in humane societies around the country. At the first sign of illness they are put on the ‘kill list’ because they can’t afford to help them. It’s our mission to rescue as many cats as possible! We want to give them a chance at life.
