Help Save Tahous By Feeding Essential Workers
Donation protected
Nick Tahou Hots is part of Rochester's history and food folklore. Dating back over a century to 1918, which few restaurants anywhere can claim, we know and love its "garbage plate" most of all.
A plate starts "with a base of any combination of home fries, macaroni salad, baked beans, or french fries topped by your choice of meats [hot dogs, hamburger, cheeseburger, veggie burger, eggs, etc] and dressed to your liking with spicy mustard, chopped onions, and the signature Nick Tahou's hot sauce." And who can forget the two thick slices of fresh Italian bread and butter!
Garbage plates have been featured on the Food Network's "Unwrapped", Travel Channel's "Man v. Food Nation" and "Chowdown Countdown", and a favorite of personalities such as comedian Jim Gaffigan.
I have been going to Nicks since I was a freshman at the University of Rochester in 1985, and my fraternity chapter Sigma Phi Epsilon has had a long-standing relationship with our favorite food eatery. Like most businesses during this pandemic, Nicks has been hit hard. Stories now abound that the business might be for sale. But we can do something to help Tahous, as well as the Rochester community.
Every dollar you donate will go to the purchase of garbage plates (price range of $10.50-$12.50 each) for Rochester's essential emergency workers - firefighters, police officers, EMS & other medical personnel. We will work with various city departments and local hospitals, such as UR's Strong Medical Center, to arrange for pick-up or delivery of garbage plates (priority given to those who can pick the plates up on their own). We hope to purchase at least 2,500 garbage plates.
I commit to buy the first 50 garbage plates ($500) for Rochester's heroes.
Help us keep a piece of Rochester history alive, and also feed those most dedicated to saving the community.
