Help save our cat, Beast

Donation protected
UPDATE: I'm very sorry to say that we are not out of the woods yet. I spoke with the doctors at Village Vets this morning and they said Beast will need surgery to remove a bladder stone that is too big for him to pass on his own. They have estimated that this will cost an additional $1,800 - $2,000. We are looking into moving him to a hospital with cheaper rates but it is not easy to find one that is available to do the surgery soon.

The money we have raised so far has been a miracle and has helped us to get beast into the hospital, where he is currently under sedation and draining urine.

We want to say thank you to everyone who has contributed to this fundraiser so far. Your support and messages of love have been so overwhelming. If you can, please continue to share, donate, and do anything you can to help us out. Thank you!!

(P.S. I will also be posting public updates on Facebook, so you can keep yourself updated if you want to check in and see how things are going)

Hi,

My name is Andrew. I'm a single father and preschool teacher in Atlanta, Georgia. Two years ago, my daughter and I adopted our cat, Beast, from the Paws Atlanta animal shelter. He was four years old when we adopted him. He's six years old now.

During the past two years, Beast has become a loved member of our family. Like most cats, he has a personality all his own. He's very independent and not often affectionate. He won't rub up against your leg or cuddle with you at night. But he loves being around people and will always prefer to hang out in any room where family and friends are gathered. He insists on being treated like an equal. Extra attention and physical contact seem to offend his sense of dignity. The only exception is when he greats me at the door every day when I come home from work. As soon as I sit down, he climbs on me and licks the back of my head for about five minutes, as though I'm his child who has gotten dirty playing outside all day.

Despite this seemingly unaffectionate demeanor
my ten-year-old daughter, Olivia, has a special love for Beast. She feeds him treats when she comes home from school and lets him chase her lazer pointer around the kitchen in our apartment. She says that Beast will often sleep next to her at night, something he never does with anyone else.

Like many cats, Beast loves mischief. We have a rule in our house that no one can leave their drink cup unattended, because as soon as you turn your head, Beast will spill your drink onto the floor with one swipe of his paw.

This weekend we noticed that Beast was behaving strangely. His mobility seemed impaired and he was sitting in strange (or stranger than usual) positions. When we noticed that he had stopped eating we became especially worried. On Sunday his body temperature dropped and we quickly took him to Village Vets in Decatur. The veterinarians told us that he is suffering from Feline Idiopathic Cystitis. His urinary tract is severely blocked and his life is in danger.

The vets need to keep Beast in the hospital for several days to treat him. They say that if he improves during the coming week that he has a good chance of making a full recovery.

However, keeping Beast in the hospital to get him the care he needs costs a lot of money. The estimate is $1,784.15

As a preschool teacher, I make roughly $20,000 a year. Honestly it is sometimes a struggle to pay for daily expenses. I'm also burdend by credit card debt, student loans, and my own medical bills. There is no money left to spend. I simply can't afford to pay for Beast's treatment.

My daughter is absolutely distraught by this situation. I hope it is not in poor taste for me to share with you that as I type this, she is laying in my bed, holding a photo of Beast and trying in vain to hold back her tears.

It is very difficult for me to ask for money and it is a personal failing of mine that I often do not ask for help when I need it. So, please believe me when I say that if I had any other option to pay for Beast's care, I would take it.

Please consider donating to help Beast. We love his grumpy little butt and he's far too young to leave us yet.

This is very urgent and if we're going to save him, we need the money ASAP (this week, actually). Please help!
