Help Save Our Zebra

Hi, my name is Debs, I am an Aussie who lives in rural Kenya with my hubby, 5 rescue German Shepherds and temporarily 14 wild zebra! Kenya is experiencing the worst drought in over 40 years; throughout the country livestock and wildlife are dying of starvation. With no grazing left, they are dependent on us humans for survival.

Since the beginning of December 2022, we have been fostering 12 adult and 2 baby wild zebra who are 100% dependent on us for food (hay and pellets) and water. As the drought continues and there is no sign of rain, we are trucking in water, hay and horse pellets from over 20kms away.

Most days the zebra don't leave our front yard. There is nowhere to go. There is no grazing left. They patiently wait for hay and water.

Even our dogs can sense the zebra are desperate and need our help.

Every week they consume over 50 bales of hay, 100kg of horse pellets and around 2000lts of water. As you can imagine we turn heads with our loaded old trusty land rover! Everything has to be trucked in, including clean water (our dam dried up in July 2022).

We can't let these guys down. They have trusted us, they have asked for help, and they rely on us for their survival.

Every dollar raised will go toward providing food and water to the wild zebra. Eventually, the rains will come, the grazing will return and their instinct will see them move on to greener pastures. However, this could be several months away.
