Peso's story

Hi! My name is Peso, I am 2 months old. I am the unwanted puppy of my litter from a small town called El Nido, Philippines. I have been neglected, living in a rubbish pile next to a construction site, tied to a post by 4 ft of rope, surrounded by broken glass and sharp metal. I am starving. I get fed 1 snail at 12 o’clock every day – if I’m lucky. I have no water. I am tormented by my owners’ everyday and laughed at because I can’t escape my rope. 3 days before I was two months old, two strangers heard me desperately crying; they approached me, but I am scared of humans so I tried to run away. The rope around my sore neck kept yanking me back. One of them picked me up and cuddled me while another gave me water from his hand. I was shaking uncontrollably. The two strangers argued with my owners about my welfare, but he didn’t care, just laughed. I was so unwanted my owners told the strangers to take me away – even declining money for me because apparently I am worthless.

I spent the rest of my day being fed and watered by the strangers. I ran along the beach but could only run 20 meters because I have never ran before. For the first time in my life I experienced affection, I didn’t sleep all day because I didn’t want this dream to end. When I woke up the next morning, I was still treated with love and care. I am exhausted from spending my life crying, now I am loved, fed and hydrated, I feel safe enough to sleep - I slept for 21 hours! I’ve been with my new owners for 6 days, I have my very own lead, collar, treats and even a name, Peso! My new owners took me to the vets where they gave me some disgusting tablets….but I don’t mind, it was followed by a tasty treat. My new owners treat me so well, I follow them everywhere, sit for my food, run to them when my name is called and play when I’m awake. I am still nervous of humans so often run back to my new owners for safety.  My new owners want to take me to England, so I can continue to be loved. If they don’t I will spend the rest of my life fighting other dogs for food from rubbish bins. I want to live a life without fleas, skin diseases e.g. mange (Google it!), and worst of all rabies!!!

My new Paramedic Mummy and Security worker Daddy are spending what little money they have left changing flights, feeding me, getting me vaccinated, giving me medication, de-wormed and de-flea’d to ensure I am healthy and happy.    Please help me and my new owners raise enough funds to get me to England for the life I deserve. I need to wait for a blood sample when I am 4 months old to be flown to Australia to ensure my rabies vaccination has worked.  I am hoping to raise enough money before then.  P.s Here is a photo and video (my first experience with grass!) of me 6 days later, I am growing really fast because of my healthy food and my new vitamin supplements.

 A note from us:

Although Peso is happy in his last few photos, this may be only temporary. If we are unsuccessful, we will have to leave Peso in the Philippines, where he will inevitably end up on the streets. If we can raise enough funds, our plan is to care for Peso with the help of one of Palawan's few vets - Ian at Pets United Veterinary Clinic in Puerto Princesa. Ian has been extremely helpful in giving us guidance on how we can achieve getting Peso to the UK. Once Peso has had his rabies vaccination, he has to wait 30 days for the blood test mentioned earlier, to be flown to the Australia/UK (this has to be hand carried), then await the results. He then has to wait 3 months as per EU regulations, then he can come home!! A long process but he is absolutely deserving. Please help us give this beautiful puppy the best chance at a happy and healthy life. We're not asking for someone to give a lot of money (although it would help ;) ) but for many to give a little- it can really go a long way if we have the support.   Please share this story among friends and family. Thank you so so much for taking the time to read Peso's story, we ask everyone who reads this to do one kind thing today - to change a life.

Thank you, Peso, Alex and Chloe.
