For Princess Aura

Donation protected
This is our baby Aura.  She is just a kitten and needs desperate medical help.  We have maxed out our finances trying to save her so far and just don't have the money to do what needs to be done.  It's very hard and humbling for us to ask for help but if you are able to spare anything we would be so appreciative. She is truly a member of our family so this is a last effort to save her life.  She is the sweetest kitten, so playful and funny and loves to have her belly rubbed.

She was born with microphthalmia which is a condition where her eye never fully develops.  This condition is not life threatening but unfortunately we had to have her eye removed 2 weeks ago.  During this procedure she had to be intubated.  Apparently this damaged her trachea.

When she came home she would make a noise like she was trying to cough up a hairball.  After a few days we called our vet and asked what we should do.  They suggested that it was inflammation from the intubation and that it would go away in a few days and not to worry about it.  We gave it about a week and it never got better.  We called our vet back again and they looked at her and gave us a round of antibiotics.  A few days later she could not breathe at all.  We took her back to our vet and they did X-rays and said her lungs looked clear and suggested that she may have asthma.  They gave her a steroid shot and sent us home with a bronchial dilator.  It seemed like she was getting better but the next day she again could not breathe.  We went back to our vet and they suggested we take her to Auburn University Vet Clinic which is where she is now.

They immediately put her in an Oxygen Chamber and gave her something to keep her calm.  She seemed to stabilize overnight however they could not determine what was actually wrong with her.  They suggested that we do a CT scan and use a bronchoscope to take pictures of her throat.  At this point our bill was already $1000 and the CT and camera were going to cost an additional $2000.  We decided to wait a day and see if she would improve.  Overnight they tried to move her from the Oxygen Chamber to a regular kennel.  When they moved her she began to have labored breathing again so she had to stay put.

Today they told us that we either needed to do the diagnostic tests (ct/camera) or she would need to be put down because without know what is wrong her quality of life would be so bad with the labored breathing.

Once they figure out what's wrong with her they will determine if she is a candidate for having a stent put in her trachea.  This procedure is an additional $4500-5000.

We are heartbroken and not ready to give up on her yet. Our finances are depleted but we are hoping Aura’s story will touch your heart. Anything you can spare will help us save our kitten’s life.

Thank you so much,
