Help Save Remy the Rescue from Cancer
Donation protected
Remington (Remy) is a two year old lab mix who was recently diagnosed with osteosarcoma (OSA). He went into the vet on March 26th, 2019 with a limp. We left the vet with knowledge that he had bone cancer and we had to meet with an oncologist. The next day I got a call from the vet explaining that he wanted to get Remy in as soon as possible to amputate the leg with the bone tumor.
On April 8th, 2019 (Remy's 2 year birthday) I took Remy to the Animal Surgical Center of Michigan and he went into surgery. Remy came out of surgery with one less leg, but a heart full of happiness and joy. But this is only the tip of the iceberg for his journey and fight against cancer.
Microscopic lesions - micro metastasis - are present in 90% of dogs with OSA. Dogs treated with amputation and chemotherapy experience a median survival time of one year, with 20-25% of dogs still alive at two years. There is a new clinical trial that Remy is a good candidate for, which is an OSA Vaccine. This vaccine has been shown to work in extending the lives of dogs by five years or more!
The goal is to beat these odds. Remy is to go through five rounds of chemotherapy, one round every three weeks. After the second or third round Remy will have a CT scan to make sure the cancer hasn't metastasized. Then, once all the treatments are done he will be available to do the clinical trial.
I was able to get financial support for his amputation. The money I am trying to raise now is to cover the costs of the chemo and medications that come along with it (anti-nausea and anti-diarrhea). The money would also be used for the trial afterwards and whatever medicine comes with that. He also has to go in once a month to have his CBC taken. I am trying to provide him with the best possible care.
Remy is my family. I adopted him when he was about three months old from the Humane Society of Huron Valley. He was hiding out in the corner, nervous and shy and with obvious mange and other health issues. I have been there for him since the beginning and refuse to give up on him. Because he has never given up on me and has loved me through all my highs and lows. He is too young to die, he has so much life to live.
Any amount of money is appreciated. Anything helps. I work part time and am a part time student, so I do not have a lot of money, but I am trying to make ends meet. Remy deserves a fighting chance, and it would mean the world to me (and him) if we were able to give him that chance.
Thank you,
Erin and Remy
