Help Sherwin beat FIP

Donation protected
Sherwin Williams is a two-and-a-half-year-old rescue rascal, expert biscuit maker, and all-around friendly kitty. He’s chatty and never met a keyboard he didn’t want to walk on, but he is still a sweet and independent guy. Unfortunately, over the past few weeks, he’s stopped drinking water and hasn’t had an appetite for his food. Thankfully he’ll never say no to Churu, but overall, he’s not doing great.

The doctors know there’s something wrong with his stomach, but that’s all they know. They gave him anti-nausea medication and an appetite stimulant, but neither helped. He’s lost an alarming amount of weight, his breathing is sometimes abnormal, and he’s lost his generally cheery, playful demeanor. Sherwin has been admitted to the hospital under the care of an emergency vet, where they’re administering fluids and monitoring his progress. His globulin/albumin ratio is abnormal. They plan to give him an ultrasound and a PCR test. It’s all happened so fast.

There are few words to accurately capture what Sherwin means to me. While it’s technically true that I rescued him, in reality, he rescued me, too. I had just ended a long-term relationship, my grad school had just closed, and I was still adjusting to life in a new city. I grew up with cats and had always wanted one of my own, and Sherwin is the anchor I didn’t know I needed.

I’m still waiting to hear back on the estimates, but so far, I’ve spent $5,000 for bloodwork, vet appointments, hospital admission, and other miscellaneous expenses. Thankfully I squirreled some money away to provide for cat-related emergency care, but the costs are starting to add up. I have a ballpark estimate of between $8,000 and $10,000 for all of Sherwin’s medical expenses.

Having gone through so much this year, it would mean the world if you could help contribute to the kitty that saved me. Anything helps, and I’ll continue to update this campaign with more information so you can hear more about Sherwin’s progress.
