Help SAVE St Mary's Independent School
Donation protected
Any donations made to this page will not go to the administrators. We plan to use these donations to purchase assets back from the administrators and further the plans to try and re-open our amazing prep school.
Should we for any reason not be successful then we will refund anyone who has been so kind to donate.
This is a plea to past and present parents, pupils, staff, alumni, faithful ‘Old Simmarians’ to help us in our hour of need in securing the future for our school which otherwise faces the reality of being swallowed up by another independent or worse, all record being wiped forever.
We are the parent-body of St, Mary’s Independent School which you will have learned of late is soon to enter Administration. As you can image this has caused shock, immense sadness and high-emotion, not only for our loved children but the loyal and unique staff, the faithful parents, and ever-supportive Alumni/Old Simmarians, as well as everyone who has had the pleasure of being part of our close community.
As much as this is a blow to us all, it is also an opportunity for us to reach out to you all for your support to help us save St Mary’s. This can be done. Other independent schools in the Southampton area have been through the Administration process and emerged to become successful and flourishing communities. None had the ethos and community spirit that St. Mary’s currently has. If you have had (or currently have) experience of St. Mary’s you will know exactly what we are referring to.
The school has been running for 99 years and we have all been looking forward to celebrating our 100th year next year. There are so many people that love our school that we simply cannot sit by and lose so much history without a fight. The school estate has been synonymous with Southampton's history for the last century, serving it's purpose throughout both World Wars and the White House and junior school can be seen for miles around Southampton. The school has been part of not only the local community, but that of wider Southampton for the century and over the years, the old brown and gold uniforms were immediately recognisable. Students were proud to wear it (despite it perhaps not being the height of fashion for many decades). Please help us to prevent the entire school estate from inevitably becoming yet another development opportunity and maintain a part of Southampton's heritage for another century.
As current parents, we can only express how much our children love not only their teachers and friends but the environment itself, which is the envy of many an independent school. The staff have such a caring and nurturing approach that is unique to St. Mary’s as you will all have experienced.
Our teachers represent everything that is so special about the school and manifest our ethos at St. Mary’s. They go above and beyond, and then further beyond. They are honestly amazing. They have proven this during our time in lock-down. Not only do the children receive regular online teaching, they are also lucky to have a bedtime story as a class (virtually of course) read to them every week, they have loved the virtual disco’s and talent shows, the list goes on.
Our teachers are not here just because they get paid, but because they love their job and our children and genuinely want the very best for them. They will be as broken-hearted about not seeing our children as our children will be by not seeing their beloved teachers.
We want our children to continue their educational journey at St Mary’s and ask that you help support us if you can.
The ethos of our school also manifests itself not only in current pupils, but in alumni and the Old Simmarians. We have so many ex-pupils still in contact and we are aware that there is a huge network that are so proud to have been part of our school over the decades. So many of our alumni have forged strong bonds that can never be broken. We need you to step forward now and show your support more than ever.
We cannot express enough how much this would mean to each and every one of us. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any support you can give.
We really would appreciate any donations that you are able to offer no matter how small. Every little helps as they say and we really do need your help to help keep our children in the place they love so much, St Mary’s Independent School.
Any donations made to this page will not go to the administrators but to the plans to try and re-open the school. Should we for any reason not be successful then we will happily refund anyone who has been so kind to donate.
