Sushi’s story
My daughter found Sushi on a 6-lane freeway in Arizona. She was dumped by someone and I can't imagine the fear she must have felt. We were looking for another dog when my daughter called us and told us she found the perfect dog for us. It took a while for her to warm up to us and trust us, but once she did, we have been inseparable ever since.
She experienced a terrifying and tragic accident. Just a month ago, she jumped out of her basket while we were on a bike ride, and her front paw got caught in the gear chamber of our electric bike going 15 miles an hour. This caused a severe injury that nearly severed her paw. For the past 40 days, we have brought Sushi in daily for two-hour wound care sessions where she had to be sedated. The doctor quoted us $5500 in total with surgery and today we found out after all her wound care to get her to the point of surgery the vet won't operate on her and sent us to another vet who gave us a quote of $5600 on top of the $5500 vet bill we have racked up for wound care. We literally cannot afford that so after all she has endured in wound care to save her leg due to our vet's lack of communication we might have to amputate just due to financial reasons.
She deserves to have her leg so after much thought we made this page. We never ask for help but she is our soul dog. And we thought maybe people can help us save her leg
Sushi melts anyone's heart that meets her, she's so funny and spunky and above all after all she has endured in her life she's loving. Her favorite thing is to go for bike rides, car rides, get ice cream and loves to give kisses to friends she meets on our daily walks. Walking and running is what she loves and if she loses her leg those days will be over.
We have never been financially grand. We live within our means and recently after our children moved out, decided to go on the road and start a travel photography business. Thinking everything would be fine, we sunk all our money into it, not leaving us with an emergency fund.
