We are combining forces with March Fourth to bring them and the Dump back to Burningman!
A MESSAGE FROM JOHN:
My name is John. I went to Burning Man solo in 1997, and like most people, it changed my life. From 1999-2004 I helped run a theme camp (Woo-Woo Field), which later became a village (Woonami). In 2003 I started MarchFourth Marching Band (now MarchFourth) with some friends in Portland, OR. When the village disbanded in 2005 the band began camping at a small piano lounge off Center Camp called The Dump. We have played Burning Man several times since then, but it has been 9 years since we have set foot on the Playa. Since our inception, MarchFourth has gone through many mutations, and the current musical beast is the best we’ve ever had. And, of our 20-person band and crew, over half of us have never been to Burning Man! That means we have at least 10 VIRGINS who must be sacrificed to Black Rock City, and that costs money. Please donate to our Dump fundraiser so that we can pay for things like camp infrastructure, food, transportation, gas(!), etc, and also so my band mates can stop asking me things like, “Daddy, what was a Burning Man?”
Our schedule is still being worked out, but so far we will be performing electric at Reverbia on Weds Aug 31, and will participate in the Battle of the Marching Bands at Center Camp on Friday Sept 2. Currently seeking performance opportunities at stages with production (PA & mics).
A MESSAGE FROM THE DUMP:
Greetings, fellow past, present, and future Dump Dwellers, Jammers, Pickers and Loiterers!
After a three-year hiatus, the Dump is attempting to return to our dusty home to provide a refuge from the thump thump and glitz of other camps. We are a home for artists and musicians, and non-bougie Rabble Rousers. We have hosted countless bands and housed some of the most significant contributors of visual art on the Playa.
But friends, we need your help this year. For some unexplained reason, the BMORG has moved us off the “grid” and away from Center Camp. Concurrently, many of our most significant infrastructure contributors aren’t returning.
This, a month out from departure, leaves us with no shade structure, no electricity, and no transportation for things like our beloved piano, a PA, or our potential shade structure.
I know it seems frivolous to ask for a donation to help us go to Burningman, but if you have ever camped at The Dump, or ever plan to, please help us keep the camp alive this year!
If we can’t provide our usual services, we’re afraid we’ll lose our status as a productive theme camp, lose future placement, and lose our reserved tickets and early entry.
Richard Cawley has offered to build us a shade structure that will last us well into the future and be artistic as hell for $1500-2000.
We need to rent a box truck for transport. Cost $2500 + gas
We’re trying to piece together a solar array. $??
So, if you’re not coming this year, please consider contributing some of what you’re saving by not going to Buringman to help ensure the future of the Dump!
And if you are coming, cough it up, ButterCup!
If 100 of you donate $50…. We’re there!
If 50 of you donate $100…. BAM!!!
If 5000 donated $1…. Well…. Cool!
Love you!
