Help save the Hare & Hounds, Clayton Le Moors

Donation protected
For generations, the Hare and Hounds has been more than just a pub—it has been a gathering place where friendships are formed, families come together, local events are celebrated, and a true sense of belonging is fostered. Its history dates back to 1825, and rather than preparing to mark its 200th anniversary, we are now faced with the tragic prospect of seeing its doors close permanently.

The impact of this decision extends far beyond the loss of a public house. It threatens the livelihoods of the dedicated staff who have poured their hearts into making the Hare and Hounds the welcoming establishment it is today. Many of these employees now face uncertainty, which will undoubtedly take a toll on their mental health and well-being. Losing a job is never easy, but losing a job in a place that feels like family is even more devastating.

Furthermore, the closure will have a significant effect on the mental health of our community members. Pubs like the Hare and Hounds provide more than just drinks and food; they offer companionship and a safe space for people to come together, share their troubles, and support one another. For many, especially the elderly and those who live alone, the pub serves as an essential lifeline against isolation and loneliness. Its loss will leave a void that cannot easily be filled.

The decision to close the Hare and Hounds has met fierce resistance from locals, who have come together to form the "Save the Hare and Hounds" campaign. There is a strong will to fight for the future of this establishment, whether through community ownership, alternative business models, or further investment to secure its sustainability.

We urge everyone who shares our passion for preserving this local treasure to make their voices heard and donate where possible – this is not just a business, but an irreplaceable part of our community’s heritage and well-being.

If you feel strongly about saving the Hare and Hounds, join us in our efforts.

We have a total target of £450,000 which will allow us to purchase the building from the brewery and carry out renovations and take this on as a community asset.

Sign our petitions which can be found in paper form at the pub or online on our Facebook page 'Save the Hare & Hounds Clayton Le Moors', and show your support in any way you can.

Together, we can ensure that this historic establishment remains a beacon of community spirit for years to come.
