This historic landmark needs saving for our future generations!

The Polish Club has been an institution and second home for the Queensland Polish community across many decades and generations. We need your help to preserve it to maintain the rich Polish culture for generations to come.

The Polish Club or “Polonia” in Milton, Brisbane was constructed in 1964. Despite its age, it stands tall and encompasses the dreams of the post-war Polish migrants, who came to Australia in search of peace, security and a future for their children. They donated their time, building and construction skills and whatever money they could afford to create this club. As proud Polish people, they wanted to maintain their heritage, culture and traditions, so that their children would remember their roots.

The Polish Club became the centre of social life in Brisbane, long before social media, where both young and old would gather to participate in Polish cultural events, enjoy the weekly dance/disco or just to indulge in the delicious Polish cuisine. It would also be a place for people to come together to enjoy each other’s company when they felt homesick. Each week the markets would enable people to purchase their favourite Polish food.

The clubhouse founded and hosted many social clubs, including the Seniors club, The Polish Women’s club, the Young Polish club, Polish Scouting and Girl Guides, Literature Group, as well as regular stage productions and poetry readings. It was always a pulsating and vibrant location where some event was on almost every day. And if one wanted some quiet activity, there was always the library full of Polish books both traditional and modern.

Despite the fall in volunteer and membership numbers, there is still much affection and love for the Polish Club. The descendants of the original migrants and the
wider Brisbane Community have realised how close we are to losing this timeless institution and are working hard to save it.

How can you help? Please donate however little or as much as you can. The funds will be used to:

1.     Pay off accumulated debts accrued by the previous committee

2.     Revive the club décor

3.     Provide a cash boost to the club to secure its future and a way out of the pandemic

So, let’s get together and keep the Polish Club alive for generations to come!

Thank you for your kind and generous support!
