Help Save the Stray Pigs of Puerto Rico
This video was taken during our November trip to Puerto Rico. The situation was much worse when we saw it in person. Initially the USDA had a plan to kill the pigs, but with our petition on Change.org they backed out. Which was great
news, however, getting the local San Juan government to allow WUFAW to help has been a long and frustrating fight.
Over the past year, we have been working with ARYA Pets to come up with a plan to save the pigs. Someone came forward and donated a piece of farm land for us to build pig pens on, but unknown to us the land was inhabited with
wild dogs, so we had to abandon the fence we already built. Thankfully, a pig farmer, offered for us to rent 2 pig pens where we could house the roughly 40 pigs we rescued. All the while we were still negotiating with the local government to help because there are believed to be over 350 pigs still in need.
Last Monday, we finally reached an agreement with the government to start implementing our proposed plan to catch the pigs and spay/neuter them!
To accomplish this we need your help!
List of costs:
- Clear the land of debris and brush (volunteers needed)
- Build multiple pig pens - to separate by sex
- Catching the pigs (volunteers needed)
- Daily care - food and water (volunteers needed)
- Medical care - includes spaying/neutering, deworming, and various other issues
Please donate what you can and if you would like to volunteer on the ground in Puerto Rico please email

If you or a sanctuary are interested in helping to find homes for the pigs please email
