I am fighting to save the life of my cherished rabbit, Thor, for the second time in just a few months.
Thor's Story:
In March 2024, Thor, my 6-year-old bunny, started showing signs of dental issues. Despite early concerns, it wasn't until May that Thor was able to undergo his first major surgery for a tooth abscess.
Throughout June and early July, Thor endured regular follow-up visits to treat any remaining infection. Despite setbacks and the hardest months of his life, I was hopeful as his condition seemed to improve. He was amazingly resilient; he still wanted to eat and socialize, and he still loved to flop and sploot. I began to think he was on the mend and started planning for a future with a healthier bunny.
I hoped he was through the worst of it, but Thor's battle was far from over.
The Battle Continues:
Having fought through weekly treatments, multiple medications, all while showing incredible resilience, the vets and I believed Thor was on the path to recovery. But in mid-July, another lump close to the same spot in his jaw was discovered, and I received the devastating news that Thor's abscess had returned, this time affecting his entire lower mandible (jawbone). The abscess had moved into the bone, requiring more delicate surgery that would involve removing diseased bone tissue while fighting to keep the mandible intact.
How We Can Save Him:
Having exhausted initial treatment options, I am now owing more major surgery costs, and facing a longer treatment plan so as to give him a better chance at healing properly. This offers Thor the best chance of survival.
While the surgery itself has been my immediate concern, Thor will need extensive follow-up care, including:
- Weekly treatments (marsupialization procedures)
- Monthly CT dental scans
- Ongoing antibiotic and pain medication
- Possible future surgeries
I need to raise at least $10,000 to cover Thor's immediate surgery and follow-up care, and possible future surgeries. I cannot do this without your help, which is why I am here to ask you to share this page, spread the word, and donate whatever you can to help save the life of the sweetest, most loving bunny I've ever known. No donation is too small, and every time you share this page, you are giving Thor a fighting chance.
Thor has been a cherished member of my family for 6 years, since he was just a 10-week-old tater tot and the same size as his favorite stuffies:
If you ever got the chance to meet him, you would immediately be his best friend. He's known for his gentle demeanor and endless cuddles, never being the first to end a snuggle session. He'll even snuggle with his army of stuffies when going to sleep.
Your support will directly contribute to sweet Thor's care, giving this brave boy a fighting chance. Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference. If you can't donate, sharing Thor's story would also be incredibly helpful. He wants to fight, so that he can keep on snuggling and playing. He just needs help.
THANK YOU for considering helping my little bunbun. Your kindness means the world to Thor and to me.
Please note: Any extra money will go into on-going vet visits, as he will need life-long care to keep his remaining teeth healthy.
UPDATE 2/21/2025:
It has been a long road since his operations started, with regular weekly and then bi-weekly operations on his jaw's marsupialization site, but Thor was finally reaching a point where we could begin to hope again. His recovery was going very well, until quite suddenly he stopped eating and going to the bathroom.
As of this morning we have learned he will need more x-rays, an ultrasound, blood work, overnight hospitalization, pain medication, sub-q fluids, and an aspiration procedure where they need to put a tube down into his stomach to try and remove the blockage. If that doesn't work, then further hospitalization is required, with potentially another aspiration procedure or surgery.
Stasis in bunnies is an emergency situation, so there is no waiting for these procedures.
Already for this single bill it is over $3000 dollars which was all I had left and was meant for his bi-weekly visits. If requiring another surgery and more hospitalization as suspected, it will potentially go up to $6k-$10k, which is impossible for me to pay without help.
Thor's treatments have already cost thousands upon thousands of dollars over the past year, and I am so far in debt for it that if more care is needed, I simply won't be able to pay.
If there is any way you can help, no amount is too small. Even just spreading the word and sharing this link improves his chances of survival. If there happens to be any money left over after his procedure, it will go towards his on-going recovery, such as his medications and bi-weekly vet appointments.
Thank you!
