Help New Hope Stables Save The Herd

A horse can be different things to different people. For some, a horse is a means to get from one place to another or a tool to work the fields. For some of us, a horse is a friend, a confidante, a trusted partner who shares in our adventures and knows us sometimes better than we know ourselves. The bond we have with our horses can't be explained to those who've never experienced this kind of relationship.

So, what do we do when in an instant that horse who has been there for us in our darkest times, kept us safe, and cared for us, suddenly has an accident? We can save their life but the cost will be financially devastating. How do we put a price on this precious life?

This is the situation New Hope Stables found themselves in on September 23, 2020. Upon arrival to the stables, Treasure was found on the ground. After what we believed was a colic, the veterinarian came to the stables to discover that Treasure was not experiencing colic. The veterinarian believed that her intestines were overreacting and that is where the uncomfortableness of irritable bowels was stemming from. On the morning of September 24, 2020 – we found Treasure on the ground again. Still in obvious discomfort. After speaking with a local emergency veterinarian, they advised us to travel to the nearest emergency clinic. Treasure is currently on her way at this moment. We have just discovered that Treasure now has a fever. This is leading the veterinarians to believe that what Treasure is suffering from is a viral disease. We were given an estimate of $5,000 - $10,000.  Any donation money left over will be used on local rescue horses in our area in need. 

I’d like to give you a little back story on why Treasure means the world to us.

We found Treasure in 2004 when she was about two years young. The name fit perfectly, because that’s exactly what she is to us. A true treasure. A diamond in the rough. The original owners had her in a dog pen with another horse. Treasure was trying to be sold through a yard sale for $1. She had been starved, beaten and abused. The United States Rescue League discovered this and the owners had to surrender her. What the original owners were blind to, was how much of an amazing horse they were throwing away. We, New Hope Stables, adopted Treasure through the late Amy Woodard with the United States Rescue League shortly after. Amy knew Treasure was special as much as we knew.  Finding Treasure was, and will always be, one of the best days of our lives.

Treasure has since been spoiled and lives a happy life. Treasure is frequently at competitions, local or statewide, and always does well. Treasure has won many state championships throughout 2007 – now. I could not even begin to count how many children has shown with her at competitions.

Treasure is eighteen now. It is extremely hard to put into words how much Treasure has impacted so many lives. Since 2004, Treasure has been living on our farm and teaching countless amounts of children how to ride. Treasure is usually the first horse that beginners start out on. There is something about Treasure that makes children and adults fall in love with horses and horseback riding. Not only does she teach children how to ride, Treasure always gives students a reason to come back.
