Help Scarlett Fight Stage 4 Breast Cancer

Family and friends,

It is with a heavy heart that I am reaching out to all of you in this time of need.

On July 23th, my cousin Scarlett was rushed to the emergency department for what she thought was appendicitis. However, upon evaluation with a CT scan, the doctor gave her the diagnosis of a spinal (L-4) fracture, as well as a referral to a specialist with no further details. As instructed, she followed up with an oncologist, not thinking much of it, when suddenly, her whole life flashed before her eyes when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. With the CT scan, the doctor saw she had a mass the size of two golf balls in her right breast, nodules in her lungs, and a fracture in her spine where cancer had spread. Our fears became a reality when the doctor diagnosed her with advanced-stage breast cancer.

Two weeks after receiving the news, the severe daily headaches she had been experiencing for nearly 7-weeks became worse. Her blood pressure then drastically dropped, and she was once again rushed to the emergency department. During that visit, another CT scan revealed a bleeding brain tumor. Thankfully, within a few days, doctors were able to remove the leaking brain tumor without complications. Pathology revealed she has stage 4 breast cancer. She is currently receiving radiation to her brain and spine. Following the radiation, the plan is for her to receive chemotherapy and hopefully soon remove the mass in her right breast.

It was heartbreaking to hear that this was happening to her at the very young age of 28, recently married, with an absolutely adorable 1-almost 2-year-old whom she loves with all her heart - How could this be?!

It pained me more to find out that due to recent developments in her personal life and workplace, she was no longer employed and, therefore, no longer receiving insurance benefits. Fortunately, she was able to secure coverage through COBRA, but her monthly payments are more than what she and her husband can afford.

As she begins this journey with her battle against breast cancer, I humbly ask for your help in providing any financial support for her and her family. It would be truly appreciated.

Es con gran pesar que me acerco a todos ustedes en este momento de necesidad.

El 23 de julio, mi prima Scarlett fue llevada al departamento de emergencias pensando que sufría de apendicitis. Sin embargo, la evaluación de el médico empezó con de una fractura de columna (L-4), y una referencia para ver a un especialista y sin dar más detalles. Como le indicó el doctor, ella fue con un oncólogo al día siguiente, y es entonces que la diagnosticaron con cáncer del seno. Con una tomografía computarizada, los médicos descubrieron que tenía una masa del tamaño de dos pelotas de golf en el seno derecho, una fractura en la espalda donde se propagó el cáncer y nódulos en sus pulmones. Nuestro temor se hico realidad cuando el médico le confirmo que el cáncer estaba en etapa avanzada.

Dos semanas después de recibir la noticia, los fuertes dolores de cabeza diarios que había estado experimentando durante casi 7 semanas empeoraron. Luego, su presión arterial cayó drásticamente, y fue entonces cuando la llevaron nuevamente a la sala de emergencias. Durante esa visita, otra tomografía computarizada mostró un tumor cerebral con fugas. Afortunadamente, en unos pocos días, los médicos pudieron remover el tumor cerebral sin complicaciones. Patología reveló que tiene cáncer de mama en etapa 4. Actualmente está recibiendo radiación en el cerebro y la columna vertebral. Después de la radiación, el plan es que ella reciba quimioterapia y, con suerte, pronto extirpe la masa en su seno derecho.

Fue desgarrador escuchar que esto le estaba pasando a ella a la edad de 28 años, recién casada, con un precioso niño de casi 2 años a quien ama con todo su corazón. ¡¿Cómo podría ser esto?!

Me dolió más descubrir que, debido a los acontecimientos recientes en su vida y lugar de trabajo, ya no tenía empleo y, por lo tanto, ya no recibía los beneficios del seguro. Afortunadamente, pudo obtener cobertura a través de COBRA, pero sus pagos mensuales son más de lo que ella y su esposo pueden pagar.

Mientras ella se enfrenta a la batalla contra el cáncer de mama, humildemente pido su ayuda para brindar apoyo financiero para ella y su familia.
