Help Schofield Family Get Thru Health Emergency

Donation protected
Our amazing friend Kevin and his family need our help. The kidney he received in 2008 defied all odds and lasted 15 years. Unfortunately, it is giving out and Kev is back on dialysis until a new kidney can be found.

Dialysis involves being hooked up to a machine in a dialysis center several days a week, several hours a day — physically and mentally exhausting and impacting Kev's ability to earn for his family. It will also severely limit his ability to get the boys to/from school (they go to two different schools), camps and activities, shop, cook, and all the other amazing things he does for his family — resulting in more costs for things like sitters, takeout, Ubers, etc, and most importantly, medical costs that are not always covered by insurance.

There are many ways that you can help Kev, Karen, Brian and Patrick (who are now 10!) get through this emergency and confront the overwhelming costs associated with it.

1. Donate here. The amount chosen here is somewhat arbitrary since we don't know how long they will be dealing with dialysis and (hopefully soon!) transplant recovery. The amount may be bumped up in the future, but Karen will be able to withdraw funds anytime she needs them. GoFundMe does take a small cut (2.9% + 30¢), they also ask at check out about a tip, but it is not required.*

You can donate here via Apple Pay, PayPal, Venmo, Google Pay, Credit or Debit. You can leave your name or choose to be anonymous so that it doesn't post on this page.

2. Signup to be screened as a potential kidney donor for Kevin or someone else. Kev needs a donor with a blood type in the A or O type range (any A or O, no matter the plusses or minuses). If you are not in that range, you can still sign up for a paired matching program where you donate to someone and someone donates to Kev.

3. Venmo Karen directly at Karen-Schofield-2 (phone number ends in 7755 if it asks)

4. If you want to send anything else and don't have their email or mailing address, text me and I let you know.

5. Share this GoFundMe link with others that know and love them.

6. Make sure you are listed as an organ donor on your license.

7. Send good thoughts and prayers their way!

Kev & Karen are amazing humans who have always been good to their friends and are surrounded by a fantastic group of people — friends and family who love and support them. Let's show them the love, please!

Please feel free to reach out to me with ANY questions!

This GoFundMe benefits Kevin Schofield and Karen Schofield (husband and wife). Karen is set up as the beneficiary of the funds and GoFundMe will transfer funds to her account. I am a friend of both of them, I've known Kevin since were two years old, and Karen since the Schofields moved to Glastonbury.

*The GoFundMe tip is not required, previously thought it covered their cut, but it does not. More info on fees here.
