Help Scott Espinosa-Brown in His Courageous Fight

Not many people in life make an impression quite like Scott Espinosa-Brown does. He is a man not easily forgotten.
As a Bay Area native, teacher, and coach since the 1970s, Scott has touched countless lives in immeasurable ways. He strives to give 100 percent to his players, his students, his family, and his friends. Scott is a loving and passionate man who brightens a room when he walks in, and always manages to leave you with a smile.
Currently, Scott is the assistant girls basketball coach at Acalanes High School.
As a coach, he provides a plethora of experience and enthusiasm to bring out the players’ best on the court, while remembering to care for them as people off the court.
Scott has a deep love for basketball and for life. He asks players thought-provoking questions, such as “How do you want to be remembered?” His basketball philosophy is simple yet profound: “We either win or we learn. There is no losing in this game.”
Basketball is the place where Scott doesn’t have to think about his health—he gets to just be “coach.” The Acalanes community feels blessed to have him on our side as we guide these young women to be their best in every phase of life.
Scott has taught us all how to live and love bigger and better. It is now time for us to send him some love in return.
Scott was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastasis prostate cancer about two years ago. He and his wife Katherine, now on a fixed income, never planned on dealing with cancer and all the unknown costs. They are doing their best to cover the many unexpected medical expenses and the life changes that come along with battling cancer.
Please join Acalanes girls basketball coach Margaret Gartner, along with Scott’s sister Tracy (Brown) LeBlanc, by sending him your love, prayers, good thoughts, and if possible a donation, to help him in his courageous fight against this horrible disease.
If you would like to see Scott in action and say hello, the Lafayette Girls Basketball Foundation is hosting a Cancer Awareness game. This Cancer Awareness game will be between the Acalanes High School Girls basketball team and Campolindo High School on Saturday, February 11th at Acalanes High School. The Junior Varsity game is at 1:30 p.m. and the Varsity game is at 3:00 p.m.
