Help Sean get a new electric chair

Hello everyone,

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. My name is Sean, I’m 41 years old, and I’m a proud dad to two amazing kids, Cain (16) and Lilly (13). I currently live in supported living after my life took an unexpected and difficult turn in June 2015.

That night, I went to bed feeling completely fine, but I woke up unable to move my legs. I had suffered a brain injury caused by an arteriovenous malformation (AVM), something I had no idea was there or even heard of before The initial injury left me with severe weakness in my lower limbs. Then, in 2016, I suffered a second AVM and had to undergo brain surgery again. This time, when I woke up from the anaesthetic, I was paralysed from the chest down.

To avoid being completely bed-bound when I left the hospital, I privately raised the funds to buy an electric wheelchair, since the NHS waiting list for an electric chairs was five years long. That chair gave me back some independence, helping me take days out and be there for my kids and navigate life with dignity.

Unfortunately, because it was purchased privately, NHS wheelchair services are not allowed to help me maintain the chair meaning every repair, part, and service charge has had to maintained by me. Over the past 9 years, I’ve spent over £10,000 on repairs alone. It cost me £300 for a call out charge and an hours labour that is before any parts are purchased

Just this morning, I spent £800 on new tyres and a battery to try and fix some error codes, but the problems remain. The technician has now quoted me over £4,000 for additional repairs with no guarantee it will even work. At this point, I’m throwing money at something that’s too old and too worn down to be saved. It is 9 years old now and chairs have a shelf life of 5 years

Ultimately I need a new electric wheelchair something reliable that can keep me mobile, independent, and able to live life on my terms. Unfortunately, I simply can’t afford the cost of a new chair on my own. That’s why I’m here, asking for your help.

Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly towards purchasing a new chair and giving me back the freedom I’ve worked so hard to hold onto these past 9 years.

The chair model is called the
F5 corpus vs made by Permobil

The pictures are what the chair enables me to do, day to day without support. Right now I can’t do those things with the chair broken, and it is taking a toll on my health being stuck in bed

If you can’t donate, please consider sharing my story. Your support truly means the world to me and my family

Thank Sean
