Help Sean Mahan and family as Sean battles cancer

Hi everyone,

My name is Bryony and I’m starting this GoFundMe to help support my brother Sean Mahan and his family. As some of you know, Sean was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer after what was supposed to have been a straightforward medical examination and procedure. He had just returned home to Toronto from Alberta (where he spends much of his time working) at the end of August to enjoy the last couple of weeks of summer at home with his family and to help move his eldest daughter back to university. Only a few days before he was supposed to fly back out west, to continue working, he was completely blindsided by the unexpected and catastrophic news that he has aggressive Stage 4 prostate cancer. He immediately cancelled his return flight and has been in and out of hospital ever since. To add to this heartbreaking situation, during his most recent hospitalisation, he was told that he also now has congestive heart failure, separate from the cancer.

As you can imagine, all of this news has been devastating to Sean, his wife Michelle and their two beloved daughters. Sean’s sole focus in life has been to provide and care for his family. He has spent the last several years working away from home to provide for his family and as a result he has missed out on precious family time with his daughters, who are the centre of his life and mean the world to him. This entire situation has left the family distraught and worried about what the future holds.

Sean is now in the fight for his life and he will do absolutely everything in his power to continue to be here and provide for his family. I know that the road ahead will be long and difficult for Sean and his family, but in the short term, I just want Sean to be able to focus on his own health and well-being without stressing about additional financial worries. With frequent hospitalisations since his cancer diagnosis, Sean has been unable to return to work. Sadly with cancer treatment ongoing, he will not be fit to return to work for a considerable amount of time, which is creating a tremendous amount of financial pressure for the family.

During this difficult time, I hope we can help provide support to Sean and Michelle so that the family can keep a roof over their heads, pay their bills and ensure that their daughters’ needs are met, as they won’t be able to do all of this on Michelle’s income alone.

It is extremely difficult and not in Sean and Michelle’s nature to ask anyone for help and so I am doing this on their behalf.
