Reunite a Mama and Baby separated by injustice

Hi. We’re the admin for an online group: ‘Adoption: Facing Realities’. We elevate adoptee and FFY voices. We focus on keeping families together.

In July of this year, a young pre-teen went to the hospital thinking she had appendicitis. She was in labor with a baby and had no idea she was even pregnant. She disclosed sexual abuse from a male family member. He confessed, was arrested, and is in jail.

Imagine being alone at the hospital, just having given birth, you aren’t able to speak to your parents, you don’t know where you will go after this, you were administered morphine for pain, and an adult asks you what you want to do with this baby -“keep it? Adoption?” You are uncertain and express that. Maybe adoption?…

then they use your response to take your baby. In this case they use safe haven. Safe haven is a law to keep babies safe and help in times where the parent feels they MUST abandon the baby. But you didn’t abandon your baby. So how do you get baby back?

We are raising money to help mom obtain an attorney to help her.

If this case proceeds to end in adoption, it will open the gates for Safe Haven to be used in a coercive way that is not its intent.

Mom has visits with baby, loves baby and wants to raise baby. Shouldn’t she get the opportunity to do that after all they both have been through?
