Help Selam Berhane - 22yr old with special needs

Hi there, My name is Michael, and I am fundraising for Selam Berhane. Selam Berhane is a 22-year-old, Liya's and Brhane's first child. Selam is disabled, and her disability means Selam is unable to walk, stand, talk, or even move her hand to a certain extent. You can see this for yourself on the short video I will be sharing following this publication.

Her mother has been her primary career as her father was serving indefinite military. For the past 22 years, Selam’s mother has been relying on her husband’s monthly wage, which are 500 nakfa, £25. Last year selams father had returned home from years of serving to his dear wife and six children, unable to walk and dismissed as he is 'no longer fit for the military' due to an unforeseeable accident. This has left the family beyond devastation, unimaginable pain, life long scars, but significantly unable to survive a day without tremendous stress and anxiety of what the next day might hold.

Selam was raised in the city, where her disability was not seen as such a problem to survive a day. However - not very recent - Selams family have been kicked out from the house located in the city - they relied upon mainly for medical reasons - as they could not keep up with the rent. As one can relate, the city used to make Selam and her mother's life more accessible to survive the day. Since 2006, they have tried their best to live in the village with their five other kids. However, living in the village has meant that Selams family have to rely on farming to feed the family. Due to all the responsibility selams mother carries without the help of her husband, taking care of selam has not been easy. This has meant that Selam has not been able to receive the help and support she requires. For instance, medical requirements are hardly met due to transport and financial issues, no one to feed her or take her to the toilet. Also, as selam is a grown female, she requires certain necessities such as pads. Besides this, Selam requires a wheelchair as she hardly gets the chance to see the sun for days and does not get to leave the village to go to the city for years and years.

In order to mitigate Selam's struggles and hardships, we are kindly asking you to donate whatever you can. Every penny will go to Selams family and will be used for Selams needs. As her parents have requested, any little help would be appreciated, and both parents look forward to using this money to better selams life by moving back to the city where Selam's mother will have more time to look after her and take her out but most importantly, selam would have easier access to her medical needs.
