Detroit's award-winning swing band, the Planet D Nonet has a new CD out in tribute to the music of Duke Ellington. Not only that, Duke was the very first African-American to do the score to a major motion picture, Anatomy of Murder, as directed by Otto Preminger, starring Jimmy Stewart, Lee Remick, Ben Garzzara and George C. Scott. The new CD features several songs from this soundtrack. This movie was filmed in Michigan's Upper Peninsula where the true story took place.
The Planet D Nonet has been invited to perfrom at two of the locations where the movie was filmed, as well as two other locations, their first-ever tour that takes them to Michigan's beautiful Upper Peninsula.
All of the money from these four engagements will go to the salaries of the musicians. That means money needs to be raised for accommodations and for gas. That is where you come in. Can you spare a few bucks to help the Planet D bring swing music to this part of Michigan? When do you think was the last time a 10-piece swing band came through this part of the state and performed this great music? This will be a great experience for the musicians and for the audiences, but your help is needed in order to make it happen!
