Help Send Aaron to U23 World Championships
Hello! My name is Aaron Johnson and I am a senior at the University of Cumberlands as well as a member of the Men’s Wrestling team. I was a captain for the Men’s wrestling team this past year as well as a Two-Time NAIA All-American in the 285lbs weight Class (Finished 8th in the country in 2019 and 3rd in the country in 2021). This past year I was offered an opportunity to represent The Jamaican Wrestling Federation at the Under 23 World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia (November 1-7th 2021). I am able to represent the country due to the my parents heritage I was granted a Jamaican Citizenship by decent.
The Jamaican Wrestling Federation is recognized and sanctioned by the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA). The Jamaican Wrestling Federation is a very new and fresh program that was only started up a few years ago, and they are trying to recruit eligible athletes that have performed well at high levels to represent them. However, since their program is so new, their athletes have to pay their way to go to tournaments and wrestle overseas. I am reaching out to you today to ask for a donation to help me reach my fundraising goal.
My fundraising goal is set for $6,000 and that amount will cover airfare, hotel, tournament entry, certifications for both wrestlers and coaches. Accompanying me to Serbia will be coach Kegan Calkins, Head Assistant Coach for Men’s and Women’s Wrestling at Aurora University, and Eric Deluse, Graduate Assistant for Men’s Wrestling at The University of the Cumberlands. My goal is to bring home the first ever U23 medal in wrestling for Jamaica, which I hope can boost funding that the Jamaican Wrestling Federation will receive from the JOA to aid myself as well as any other Jamaican wrestlers in the future. Your support is greatly appreciated.
