Like every immigrant, Leke (27 years old) came to the USA to achieve his dreams and that of his family. To describe Leke as a loving, caring, passionate and hard working, are not enough adjectives to describe his dynamic personality. Leke’s dad passed away in 2008,  living his mother a widow hence he made it his personal duty to be his mother’s happiness and breadwinner of the household. Sadly, On the 9th of October 2019 at approximately 9:45 pm we lost one of our own dear brother to gun violence. We received a call from the DC police department that 2 victims were fatally shot in an apartment in DC and one of the victims was Leke. Flabbergasted we asked which Leke ? After a short moment we were informed both victims showed no signs of life upon police/medical arrival. Leke had been working with his client (Devin) for 3 plus years when it proved difficult to other caregivers. He went to drop off his client as a regular routine and while at the apartment, he and the client were fatally shot. The totality of the circumstances is unclear but from what we are learning, he heard a gunshot and ran towards the sound to ensure his client was ok and became the next victim. That’s the embodiment of our beloved Leke. He was such an outgoing and caring person who always put the well-being of the people he loved before his own. The family and friends of Leke are still fighting spiritually to accept the reality of it all as well and the trauma. Leke’s departure has created a big vacuum in the hearts of many including people of all ages. This could've happened to any of us. Kids are asking who killed Uncle Leke and why ? Leke’s personality and positive influential attitude has left us with no option but to ask for aid financially to help relief some of the pain we are left to endure. Anything, even a single dollar will help us send his corps back to Cameroon where he will finally be laid to rest. As essential as it is for us to get closure by seeing him,  sadly so does his loving mother and close brother who still reside in Cameroon. We humbly ask for any support you can provide to aid in these trying times. Leke’s legacy and popularity will forever remain in our hearts.
