Help send Galway’s OM Team to World Finals

My name is Julie and my co-coach Sarah and our team parents are raising money to send the Galway NY Division 1 Odyssey of the Mind team to the World Finals. After winning first place in their regional tournament, the Galway Division 1 Odyssey of the Mind (OM) team went on to win 2nd place overall at the state tournament on March 27th! The kids did an amazing job and demonstrated that the work happening in the Galway CSD OM program is some of the best in the state. While the team came in second, they won first place in the Spontaneous competition (where they engage 'in the moment' with a verbal problem given to them by a team of judges) - they missed being State Champs by only 3 points.  Pretty amazing for our little Galway team!

Further, because of this amazing success, the team has the opportunity to compete in the OM World Finals in Iowa on May 25-28.  Galway CSD has long had a strong Odyssey of the Mind program, with several teams winning regional competitions and going on to compete in the New York State Championship.  Now, for the first time since 1995, Galway is sending a team to the World Championship in Iowa!

Odyssey of the Mind is an international creative problem solving competition that teaches children how to develop and use their natural creativity to become problem-solvers. The team develops a performance that solves a “problem”, and build their own sets, props, and write their own scripts - all without outside assistance. Going to the World Finals is a once in a lifetime opportunity and it is simply amazing that such a young team has the opportunity to go. Most members of the team have been participating in the program together for three years. They started this year’s problem in the fall and have been working hard.

Now their next challenge is raising the funding necessary to get to World Finals. Every donation, no matter what size, will help cover the considerable transportation, housing and tournament costs. Please help and share so that we can get this amazing team to Iowa!
