Help send our student musicians off to college

Donation protected
The Yolo Community Band is a not for profit community service organization that seeks to serve our community by performing beautiful music. Part of our mission is to foster community engagement and participation through music. We achieve this by offering performance opportunities to Middle School, High School and College student musicians. These student musicians form an important role in our organization and as an organization, we want to help them with expenses for college.

This year we have 2 very deserving Woodland High School students who are off to college this fall performing in Yolo Community Band. They are Diego Borges Clarinet and Sophie Muth Trumpet. Please read the bios of each of our amazing students below.

What exactly will your generous donations go towards?

Diego is in need of an A Clarinet to play in the University Orchestra. There are plenty of good quality used professional model instruments available for around $2,500-$4,000.

Sophie needs help covering books and class materials for her Musicology classes.

whatever donations we gather will be divided equally between Diego and Sophie!

Hey, my name is Diego Borges and I’m a recent graduate from Woodland High School in Woodland California. I graduated at the top of my class as valedictorian with a GPA of 4.43 and I have completed over 300 hours of community service. All of my life I’ve been in love with music, singing, playing and listening to it, but it wasn’t until 5th grade when I picked up my first clarinet that I truly started to really love it. From that moment on I knew I wanted to play music for the rest of my life. From there I performed in many honor bands. One in elementary school, one in middle school, and three in high school, two of which were the Northern California High School Honor Band my freshmen and sophomore year. Throughout my time at WHS I was part of the pit orchestra, drumline, the Yolo Community Band, the American River College Concert Band, music committee, theater, and many more groups where I got the chance to learn new skills and instruments that will now help me with my journey at Sonoma State University as a clarinet major.

Hi! This is Sophie Muth. A little about me: I just graduated from Woodland High and I’m going to UCLA in the fall to pursue my bachelor’s degree in musicology. I adore all things music! I’ve played trumpet since the fifth grade, and I took classical piano lessons from 3rd grade until the end of high school. I also sing and play guitar more casually. During high school, I was involved in jazz band, wind ensemble, jazz combo, pit orchestra, as well as music committee. I was jazz vocalist my senior year, and I was also stage manager my junior year. This summer, I’ve been participating as a tutor in WJUSD’s band camp, as well as playing in Yolo Community Band and writing little songs here and there on guitar to keep my music chops in shape. I want to work in the music industry after graduating, or perhaps work as a music historian. Somewhere down the line I think being a music professor would suit me well. Thank you!

Thank-you very much for your support of our amazing kids!
