Help Send Students To Robotics World Championship

Hi, I’m Kalah, on behalf of the Wy’east Middle School PTO, I’m fundraising for two of our amazing Wy’east Middle School robotics teams, The Baconado’s and The Dustpans, to send them to the VEX IQ World Championship in Texas, May 1st-4th. Time is short and we need to reach our fundraising goal by April 1st!

Throughout the season, these talented kids had to design, build, and code a robot which included a drivetrain, block collectors, and dispensing mechanisms, in order to compete in the VEX IQ Full Volume game, which involves maneuvering around a board, collecting different sized blocks and depositing them into goals to score points. The teams have to work collaboratively and strategize to maximize their points.

During the qualification rounds at the state competition on February 24th, both teams were ranked at 14th and 15th place at halftime. They thought they didn’t have a chance to get to finals, but they managed to bring their average score back up and just managed to get into the final round, ranking 9th & 10th. (Only the top 10 teams move onto the finals).

Both teams joined forces in the final round, and did amazing! They tied for first-place! The kids are actively finding creative ways to fundraise to make this trip happen. 

Please help us send these well-deserving students to the The World Championship! This is an amazing opportunity for them to meet and collaborate with other students from all over the world. They will compete in teamwork challenges and robot skills challenges which includes a coding component for autonomous driving. Vex competitions foster students natural desire to question, tinker, experiment and play and offer an opportunity for students to learn communication, collaboration and time-management skills.

Funds raised will be used to pay for registration fees, lodging and airfare, transportation to the event, shipping costs for the robots, and food and supplies.
