Help Send Sunshine to Seniors Across Canada!

As you are aware, our country’s senior citizens are considered to be a vulnerable age group, which is now amplified during the COVID-19 pandemic. With this in mind, three of my friends and I decided to create a not-for-profit corporation in 2020 that would benefit members of this demographic, especially those who may not have a lot of contact with others. And so, Sending Sunshine was born!

Sending Sunshine operates 100% through the work of unpaid volunteers and aims to reduce the negative effects of loneliness among seniors living in Canada by providing them with handwritten cards. Specifically, Sending Sunshine collects cards containing uplifting, handwritten messages crafted by people from Canada and beyond. These cards are then distributed to both organizations that support seniors who live independently in the community and care facilities around Canada, where they are ultimately distributed to the clients and residents. We are currently partnered with over 585 care facilities and organizations from coast to coast. Since launching Sending Sunshine in August 2020, we have received over 118,000 cards and keep receiving more everyday!

Our main expense is the shipping cost to mail card bundles to our partnered facilities. We need funds and support to continue to send uplifting cards to isolated senior citizens. To date, we have made over 700 shipments and have spent over $14,200 sending these packages. We currently have limited funds and will not be able to financially support the mailing cost of these packages in the future.

We would also like to keep expanding and spreading sunshine to as many seniors as possible. Sending Sunshine hopes to see a world in which every senior citizen will never feel alone. Therefore, we hope to expand our initiative internationally by sending cards to care facilities outside of Canada. All of this requires funds that we currently do not have, so we would be extremely grateful if you donate to Sending Sunshine and help us to continue our initiative! 100% of donations that we receive will be used to send cards to senior citizens and will help us spread sunshine across Canada.
