Help send the Brisbane Metro SL team to Nationals

Donation protected
It’s all hands on deck for the players and families to raise the funding needed to help get the team over to Western Australia for the National Championships in just a few weeks. We’re appealing to friends, family, coworkers, Facebook friends – any and all supporters of baseball and kids’ dreams – to please join us in this fundraising effort. Big or small, every little bit will help, so thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity.

Here's our story (so far):

Sometimes the stars align and a team comes together where the talent, attitude, work ethic and dynamic is just right. This year’s Brisbane Metro Senior League team (U16) is one of those teams. Close observers of youth baseball in Queensland have been anticipating this convergence of players and coaches for a few years now. This is a strong team with a lot of potential. They have the right chemistry, a supportive parent group, and an awareness that there’s something special going on. It’s exciting.

They recently swept through the Queensland State Baseball Championships, going a perfect 5-0 and advancing to the National Championships being held in Mandurah, Western Australia in less than three weeks. That last part – the “less than three weeks” part – is the reason we’ve created this GoFundMe appeal.

Mandurah is 4,429.6 km from Brisbane (that’s 2,752 miles if you’re in the States, Myanmar or Liberia). A quick Google search shows that we can drive there in 47 hours if we take National Highway A1. Luckily, the team can fly across the Red Centre to Perth and then drive south to Mandurah in about 8 hours. The National Tournament takes place the week of May 8-12. So, they’ll be spending more than a week in hotels, eating meals and hopefully playing some of the best baseball of their lives! In fact, if they do well, they’ll advance as the Australian representative in the 2023 Senior League Baseball World Series at the end of July in Easley, South Carolina, USA. But we’re not searching for our passports just yet (actually, we are).

No matter what happens, it’s going to be an amazing experience for these players as they put themselves up against the best teams in Australia. And, no matter what happens, it’s going to be expensive. We’ve been informed by Baseball Australia that it will cost between $3,500 and $4,000 per player to participate. Oof!

We’ll post updates and pictures here throughout the tournament so you can cheer on the team as they progress through the tournament and hopefully on to South Carolina!

Thank you so much for your support.

UPDATE #1:
The team flew out to Mandurah yesterday and has its first game tomorrow at 1pm. Go Metro!
